We didn't start with maps. We started with wood.
Our roots go back to 2012, in Figueiró dos Vinhos, a small town in central Portugal where Hugo Dias built a woodworking craft from the ground up. Not a factory. A workshop. Twelve years of working with wood, developing the precision, the materials knowledge, and the quiet discipline that serious craft demands.
In 2023, that foundation became Woodnest. A new direction built on something already proven: the ability to make objects from wood that are worth keeping. We started with wooden maps. Today we design and produce personalised name signs, decorative pieces, and handcrafted objects for the home, all made from wood and cork in our workshop in Portugal. The map was where we began. It is not where we stop.

Years of Woodnest

❝ I grew up with sawdust on the floor and wood in my hands.❞
I learned craft the slow way, watching how materials behave, how precision matters, how the difference between a good piece and a great one is almost invisible until you know what to look for.
In 2023, I built Woodnest. Not to replace what my father created, but to take it further. New products, new markets, a brand that could carry Portuguese craftsmanship into homes across Europe.
Every piece that leaves our workshop carries twelve years of knowledge behind it. That is not something you build overnight. We did not have to.

Our commitment to the planet
Sustainability is not a separate chapter of our story. It is built into every material we choose and every piece we make. We use FSC-certified wood and natural cork, materials chosen with intention, not convenience.
Every product sold plants one tree, through verified reforestation projects in Portugal, Spain, Canada, the Amazon, the United States, and Australia. When you buy from Woodnest, you are not just decorating your home. You are part of something larger.

Portugal
This is where we come from, and where we give back first. Portugal has lost over 53% of its tree cover since 2000 and is the most wildfire-affected country in Europe. Through One Tree Planted, we support native reforestation projects restoring cork oak, maritime pine, and strawberry tree across the landscapes that inspire our work.

Amazon rainforest
The Amazon produces 20% of the world's oxygen and is home to 10% of all species on Earth. Spanning Brazil, Peru, Colombia and beyond, our contribution goes directly to verified restoration projects inside the rainforest. What happens here affects every living thing.

Canada
Canada is home to 9% of the world's forests. Ancient boreal ecosystems under increasing pressure from climate change and industrial activity. We support restoration projects that regenerate critical habitats for caribou, wolves, and hundreds of migratory bird species.

United States
From the Pacific Northwest to fire-damaged California, the United States faces an urgent need for reforestation. One Tree Planted works with local communities and conservation groups to restore native forests, rebuild wildlife corridors, and recover ecosystems affected by decades of wildfires.
